Submission Type: E

1.Your registered Boat Name: Q23 SUI 007

2.Race Day: 4

3.Group (colour): Blue

4.Race (number): 11

5.Time (in Replay): 13:42

6.Rule(s) applicable: 11

7.Boat(s) involved: Albervita/IT Wolves

8.Description: Albervita, leeward from me and with overlap, and I were on the way to windward mark. Albervita pushed up, but there was still enough space between the two boats. Suddenly I got a Pen 11 although there had never been any contact. Maybe it was "Lag", because the whole race was disturbed by Lag. Since there was no contact, I think the pen was not correct and had it cancelled.

Facts:
Alvervita overlapped to leeward of Q23.
Q23 on a lower course, sailing faster and reducing the gap between the boats.
None of the boats are changing course.
Q23 receives a penalty from the VSK umpire under rule 11, which he cancels.

Conclusion:
According to MLS Rule 2.5 there was contact between the boats, as there was no lag involved.
Q23 broke rule 11 and shall be scored DSQ in the race.

Note:
The collision models of the RC44 and TP52 boats are bigger than the visible boats.
For this reason, the sailors must sail with bigger margins when using these boats.

It will be difficult to find out how much distance between the boats is enough.

I guess you just found out ;-)

PS! Don't forget that this also is too close if there is no contact, due to the 2nd part of the definition of keeping clear.
